Remedies for Tired Children at the End of Term or After Daylight Savings
How do your kids cope with the end of term?
After ten or so weeks of learning, homework, after-school activities and end of summer fun, the energy is wearing thin for most kids.
Behaviour tends to take a dive as the exhaustion sets in. Here’s a few key things we tend to see:
Rattiness
Argumentative combative behaviour
Weeping, emotional outbursts
Pale faces
Staring eyes and inability to concentrate on what you’re saying
Complaining
Difficulty getting up in the morning.
You get the picture!
There are a few helpful remedies to support kids' systems at these times.
Silica is a very good support for propping up a tired system. Silica is what helps our bones harden and is a necessary mineral for hair, teeth and nails. Kids physically drained but still working hard at their studies (great for before exams). The brain may be feeling foggy and they can have trouble concentrating.
Calc Phos is necessary for children growing bones and teeth. Lanky and thin, they may feel exhausted and be having trouble absorbing their nutrients from food. They might be making errors with words in their school writing and homework.
Narayani Back Up is a Narayani Combination to help support your system when you’re unwell or run down..
Narayani Nutrition Support is one I love for supporting general nutrition needs in our family, especially when exhaustion gives way to less favourable food choices.
Narayani Anaemia Support is always something to have in the back of your mind as iron deficiency is so common. This is a great remedy to support the body to absorb iron.
In our last week of Term 1 this year, we also had to deal with the end of Daylight Savings. The time change did a number on our circadian rhythm (our internal Body Clock) and combined with the general end-of-term exhaustion made for some zombie-like adults and kids!
Arnica, Gelsemium and Cocculus are all great Daylight Savings Remedies. I often combine them to help my family adjust to the time difference.
Anas Barb/Oscillococcinum is a good idea at these times to help the body’s resistance to colds and flus, especially with the change in season.
Your child may have a constitutional remedy that supports them in all situations. If you have one remedy that seems to work every time for your child, try giving a dose of this as additional support.
Sometimes your child will need a more specified remedy to match them as a whole. This is where your homeopath comes in, and a school holiday appointment may be in order!
